Perez, Cabrera Named To All Star Team; Kipnis Snubbed

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Indians will be represented twice in Kansas City for the All Star Game.

For the second consecutive year, closer Chris Perez and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera were named reserves for the American League squad.

Both were elected by players and managers during voting which took place last weekend.

Perez is tied for the Major League lead with 23 saves. His only blown save came in a 16-inning opening day loss to Toronto. Perez is 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA in 31 relief appearances this season.

Perez, who tossed a scoreless inning in the 2011 All-Star Game in Phoenix in his All-Star debut, becomes the first Indians reliever to make consecutive All-Star teams since Jose Mesa in 1995-96.

Cabrera is hitting .298 with 18 doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 68 games in 2012. He currently leads all American League shortstops…
